Learning Beyond the Classroom

An Olashore education is about much more than academic excellence. We believe that children learn in many ways and that exposure to exciting and challenging experiences outside the classroom is key to ensuring that children gain the leadership skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. The educational philosophy is based on Kolb’s learning cycle where experience followed by reflection leads to learning.

Olashore trips are based on this experiential approach to learning. The common thread is the focus on positive outcomes in personal and social development. The trips include a range of outdoor activities including climbing, abseiling and canoeing, cognitive challenges and direct teaching alongside cultural activities including museum visits, sightseeing and visits to local schools.

At Olashore we have developed a range of trips for students from Years 7 to 12 to provide a broad range of cultural experiences and to allow children to face a wide range of challenges. I have accompanied children on many of these trips and the delight on a child’s face when they make new friends, complete tasks they thought impossible or push themselves beyond what they thought were their limits makes me realise that these are the moments that these children will remember forever and that will shape them for success in the future.
