Welcome. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website of Olashore International School. Olashore is one of Nigeria’s leading boarding schools, offering both Nigerian and international curricula to parents looking for a safe environment for their children to develop into the leaders of tomorrow. I hope the website provides some insight into life at Olashore however I would like to encourage you to take the time to visit the school and experience life at Olashore.
As Principal of Olashore International School I take great pride each day as I see the young boys and girls who join us in Year 7 growing and developing. The school has a long history of providing an outstanding academic education and consistently appears amongst the top twenty schools in Nigeria based on external examination results. Our graduates gain entry to top universities both in Nigeria and abroad and graduate with honours.
However, an Olashore education is about much more than academic success. At Olashore we focus on nurturing each child to their full potential. We have extensive programmes in sport, drama and music. The students from the school compete in sporting competitions with other international schools across Nigeria. We regularly host competitions at the Dr D. F. Burgess stadium. Some of the most enjoyable times at the school are when invited schools from major cities across Nigeria spend the weekend with us to participate in our sports festivals. Our drama troupe perform regularly in school, developing their own playlets whilst also performing the works of Nigerian playwrights. The support of major playwrights for these productions over the years including Professor Wole Soyinka, Professor Femi Osofisan and Rasheed Badamosi has ensured that being selected for the drama troupe is a great honour. The school’s production of Morountodun was recognised as the best school drama in Nigeria. The school has a thriving orchestra and choir who perform at all school functions. This is an area that has really developed in recent years and I was very pleased when the school music department took five prizes at the AISEN music competition. Individual instrument tuition is also available.
The area of the school which gives me most pride is our leadership programme. Olashore has always had a passion and reputation for developing leaders. The success of many of our graduates taking leadership positions in universities and businesses around the world is a testament to this. Within the school we committed to formalising this development and providing structure to our leadership development programme. In conjunction with a US based consultant we have developed a leadership programme for students based on the Social Change Model of Leadership. This model was first developed at UCLA and focuses on leadership that brings positive change in society. As this programme has been implemented it has been encouraging to see students from year 7 through to year 11 developing and implementing projects to change the local environment. This has included projects within the school to improve the environment and also work with local community organisations to enhance learning in local schools and work with underprivileged children.
The development of a strong academic foundation, developing each child’s talents and preparing them to become leaders who will bring about positive change in society is what an Olashore education aims to deliver. As Principal of the school it is a pleasure to be a part of this. I hope you will be able to visit the school to find out more.
