Resumption Term 2, 2017/18

Happy New Year and welcome back to school, I hope you had an enjoyable holiday. As we look forward to the start of term we realise that this is a very exciting year for the school, as during 2018 we will prepare to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the opening of the school.

Olashore International School has an exemplary record for producing outstanding young men and women who are successful across the world. We continue to receive news of the success our alumni are having in academic institutions around the world and also now as they progress into leading positions in industry and business. It is pleasing to see the success of our alumni matched by our graduating set. I recently received confirmation that two of our prefects have been offered admission to the prestigious African Leadership Academy (ALA) in South Africa. ALA’s mission, to develop the next generation of leaders who will transform Africa aligns closely with Olashore’s commitment to develop global leaders for the 21st Century. Admission to ALA is highly competitive and I would like to congratulate Ginika and Bolaji on achieving their goal.

As we resume our Year 12 students will embark on a busy programme. The externally moderated mock examinations will begin in the next few weeks with results available to parents on Visiting Day. This will allow us to ensure each student is effectively prepared for WAEC examinations. In addition, entries have been submitted for JAMB, SAT and IELTS. We look forward to great success.

Ensuring each child meets their full potential is a key part of Olashore’s mission statement. To help us achieve this, each year students sit an international standardised assessment with GL education. The online assessments will be taken at the end of the month with a detailed report sent to parents and shared with students. This will ensure that the students, parents and teachers work together to achieve success throughout their time at Olashore and beyond.

Partnership between parents and school is now recognised as a key part of a quality education. Parents visit the school for Open Day but most parents like to maximise the time during Visiting Day with their children. Hence, the Chairman of the Board of Governors and I like to take the opportunity to visit regional centres across Nigeria and the U.K. to meet current and prospective parents. During January and February, we will be in Abuja, Akure, Ekiti, Ibadan, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri and London. I look forward to meeting as many parents as possible to share the direction of the school and our plans for the coming year. It will also provide you with the opportunity to invite friends who may be interested in learning more about the school as a destination for their child.

Finally, let me take this opportunity to invite all parents and friends to our Founder’s Day celebration which takes place on Saturday 17th February. The celebration begins at 11.00am in the school hall and is followed by the Founder’s Day Athletics in the Dr. Burgess Stadium. Sunday 18th February will be the only Visiting Day for this term as the term is quite short.
